Built on the foundation of the highly popular Hawk’s Nest rooftop tent series, which quickly grew to become one of New Zealand’s most trusted rooftop tents. We have refined and re-tuned our thinking to deliver easier camp setups and solutions for all your adventures. And we continue to build tents using only the highest quality materials and manufacturing processes that are made to last and handle whatever the road throws at you.

The Hawk's Nest V2 delivers an aerodynamic, super low-profile rooftop home with a robust and durable full aluminum construction. And it deploys and is ready for camp in under 30 seconds (yes, really!).

With a full perimeter of accessory attachment tracks, and an optional Tent Mount Rack that can hold up to 30kg of essential gear on top when deployed, it’s easier than ever to adventure on.

Built Tough

The Hawk's Nest V2 is built tough using an ultra-durable full aluminum shell and marine-grade 316 stainless steel components. Protected with a commercial-grade Dulux® Duralloy® shell coating system, it delivers a rooftop home ready for any adventure, be it sun, rain, salt, sand or snow.

Combine this with Feldon Shelter's latest X Canvas Tent Body Technology, and a carefully selected blend of high-quality materials sourced both locally and internationally, the Hawk's Nest V2 has been developed and proven to handle New Zealand's harsh conditions. Hawk's Nest Model Guide

This Wide Model Hawk's Nest V2 offers the widest mattress size in the Hawk's Nest series. It's perfectly sized for larger 4x4 vehicles such as Defenders, Jeeps, and larger Landcruisers.

Easy Setup and Adventure

Just unlatch two easy-to-use lockable latches, and our marine-grade stainless steel gas struts do the rest. The Hawk's Nest V2 is fully set up in under 30 seconds, making it one of the easiest rooftop options on the market.

A mobile telescopic ladder and two ladder entry options are always available, allowing easy access no matter your vehicle or campsite setup.

Low Profile and Highly Customizable

Multiple Tent Mount Rack Options allow you to carry all your essentials on top, with a full range of accessories for securing, loading, and mounting gear.

The robust marine-grade stainless steel gas struts allow you to store up to 30kg of gear on top when deployed and camped. This means less time removing gear and more time having fun. The modular design doesn't stop there, with multiple accessory attachment T-Tracks along the full perimeter and top of the aluminum shell to attach awnings, camp lights, shoe pockets, and more.

Designed and Proven for New Zealand's Harsh Conditions

From the harsh Northland sun to the wild southern winds and rains, the Hawk's Nest has been rigorously tested in every environment to create a true four-season rooftop home. Every element has been developed here in New Zealand for New Zealand conditions.

Utilizing our proven X Canvas, the tent body and rainfly are ruggedly built with Feldon Shelter's trusted NZ-spec build methods. Sourcing gear that works, genuine Japanese YKK Zippers, European COATS thread (the same stuff used in yacht sails), NZ-made bungee, the list goes on. With downward-facing heat-sealed seams throughout, the Hawk's Nest is designed to be weatherproof in even the harshest conditions, giving you the confidence to push further.

Feldon Shelter's unique built-in ErgoCell dual-stage mattress ensures two people can sleep comfortably with plenty of room to stretch out. There's nothing better than a soft, dry, flat bed after a long drive. Say goodbye to restless nights spent sleeping on rocks and tree roots.

Materials and Construction

• Tent Body: 360g Polyester X Canvas, UV, mold, and mildew resistant, PU treated waterproof. Developed and proven for New Zealand's harsh conditions, it is tear-resistant, waterproof, and weatherproof.
• Sewing & Components: COATS UV-resistant thread (used in yacht sails), genuine YKK zippers, double reinforced and heat-sealed seams, marine-grade 316 stainless steel eyelets, NZ-made bungee (helps with packing), and high-quality 150g mosquito net mesh throughout.
• Tent Shell: Full aluminum shell with Dulux® Duralloy® powder coat finish, fully TIG welded 25mm internal frame, lightweight and ultra-durable aluminum honeycomb panels (with 10 reinforcing spines).
• Hardware: Precision CNC machined aluminum latches, ladder brackets, mounting components, accessories, and badging throughout. Marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware and industrial-grade rubber sealing methods ensure the entire tent is weatherproof and rustproof, resisting salt, water, rain, and snow.
• Gas Struts: Heavy-duty marine-grade 316 stainless steel gas struts capable of withstanding up to 45 knots of wind.
• Mattress: 60mm thick dual-layer ErgoCell mattress (high-density, comfortable foam with anti-condensation underlayer). With a waterproof backing and side panels, and a machine-washable mattress cover.

Roof Rack and Vehicle Requirements

• Roof Rack Requirements: 3-bar roof rack system or a roof platform with a minimum of 6 mounting points on the vehicle's roof
  • The spacing between the front and rear roof racks (or front and rear mounting points for a roof platform) must be 900mm or more.
• Vehicle Requirements: Both the vehicle and the roof rack system must have a dynamic load rating of at least 100kg or more.

The Hawk's Nest series of rooftop tents are ideal for large SUVs, 4x4s, and vans.

Notes for double cab utes:

• A load-bearing canopy with a suitable canopy-mounted roof rack (or platform) is generally required.
• Due to the separate flexing of the vehicle's body frames, a tent cannot be mounted to both the ute's cab and canopy/tray simultaneously.
• The ute's cab itself usually does not provide sufficient mounting length.

A. It is suitable for large SUVs, 4WDs, and vans with ample roof length and rack conditions. Be sure to check the dynamic load capacity of both your vehicle and roof rack.

Q. How many bars are needed for installation?
A. The Hawk’s Nest V2 is primarily designed for use with a 3-bar configuration or a roof platform with sufficient mounting points.

Q. Will it fit within a 2.1m height restriction?
A. This depends on the vehicle's height, rack height, and tent storage height. Since the Wide model has a storage height of approximately 20cm, we recommend actual measurement if you are aiming for a 2.1m restriction.
