Building on our hugely popular Hawk's Nest rooftop tent series, which has quickly become one of New Zealand's most trusted rooftop tents, we've thought about and fine-tuned our solutions to make camping easier and more adaptable to any adventure, using the highest quality materials and manufacturing processes to create tents that are built to last and can handle anything the road throws at them.
Hawk's Nest V2 's sturdy, durable full aluminum construction creates an extremely low-profile, aerodynamic rooftop home that deploys and is ready for camping in under 30 seconds (seriously!).

Hawk's Nest Model Guide
This wide model , Hawk's Nest V2, offers the widest mattress size in the Hawk's Nest series, making it ideal for larger 4x4 vehicles like the Defender, Jeep, and larger Land Cruisers.
Easy setup and adventure
Simply open two easy-to-use lockable latches and let the marine-grade stainless steel gas struts do the rest. Hawk's Nest V2 can be fully installed in under 30 seconds, making it one of the easiest rooftop options on the market.
A portable telescoping ladder and two ladder entry options are always available, ensuring easy access no matter your vehicle or campsite setup.
Low profile and highly customizable
Multiple tent mounting rack options let you carry all your essentials up top, and there's a wide selection of accessories for securing, securing cargo, and attaching gear.
Heavy-duty marine-grade stainless steel gas struts allow you to store up to 30kg of gear on top during deployment and camping. This means you spend less time removing gear and more time having fun. The modular design doesn't end there, with multiple accessory mounting T-tracks around the entire perimeter and top of the aluminum shell for adding awnings, camp lights, shoe pockets, and more.

Designed and proven for harsh New Zealand conditions
From the intense sunshine of Northland to the fierce winds and rain of the South, Hawk's Nest has been rigorously tested in every environment to create a true four season rooftop home , with each element developed here in New Zealand to suit New Zealand conditions.
Crafted with our proven X-Canvas , the tent body and rainfly are built to Feldon Shelter's trusted NZ-spec construction method . We sourced gear that just works, including genuine YKK zippers from Japan, European-made COATS thread (as used in boat sails), NZ-made bungees, and the list goes on. With heat-sealed downturned seams throughout, Hawk's Nest is engineered to weatherproof even the harshest conditions, giving you the confidence to venture further afield.
The Feldon Shelter's exclusive built-in ErgoCell dual-stage mattress sleeps two people comfortably with plenty of room to stretch out. After a long drive, there's nothing like resting on a soft, dry, flat bed. Say goodbye to restless nights spent sleeping on rocks and roots.
Materials and Construction
- Tent body : UV, mould and fungus resistant 360g polyester X-canvas with a PU waterproof coating. Designed and tested to withstand New Zealand's harsh conditions, it is tear-proof, waterproof and weatherproof .
- Stitching & Components : COATS UV resistant thread used in yacht sails, genuine YKK zippers , double reinforced and heat sealed seams , marine spec 316 stainless steel eyelets, NZ made bungee (helpful for storage), high quality 150g mosquito net mesh throughout.
- Tent Shell : Full aluminium shell with Dulux® Duralloy® powder coat finish , fully TIG welded 25mm internal frame , lightweight and extremely durable aluminium honeycomb panels (with 10 reinforcing backbones).
- Hardware : Precision CNC machined aluminum latches , ladder brackets, mounting components, accessories, and badges throughout. Marine-spec 316 stainless steel hardware and industrial-grade rubber sealing ensure the entire tent is weatherproof and rust-proof , and can withstand salt, water, rain, and snow.
- Gas Struts : Heavy-duty marine-grade 316 stainless steel gas struts that can withstand winds up to 45 knots .
- Mattress : 60mm dual-layer ErgoCell mattress with high-density comfort foam and anti-condensation underlayer. Waterproof back and side panels, machine-washable mattress cover.

Roof rack and vehicle requirements

Roof rack requirements : 3-bar roof rack system or roof platform with a minimum of 6 mounting points on the vehicle roof
- The distance between the front and rear roof racks (or in the case of a roof platform, the front and rear mounting points) must be at least 900mm .
- Vehicle Requirements : Both the vehicle and roof rack system must have a minimum dynamic load rating of 100kg or more .
The Hawk's Nest series rooftop tents are ideal for larger SUVs, 4x4s and vans.
Important points to note for double cab utes :
- A load-bearing canopy with a suitable canopy-mounted roof rack (or platform) is generally required.
- Due to the flex of the vehicle frame, it is not possible to fit a tent to both the cab and the canopy/tray of a ute at the same time.
- The ute cab itself also usually doesn't offer enough mounting length.
