Built on the foundation of the incredibly popular Hawk’s Nest Rooftop Tent series, which rapidly grew to be one of New Zealand’s most trusted rooftop tents. We have refined and fine-tuned our solutions for an easier camp setup, ready for any adventure. And we continue to build them from the highest quality materials and manufacturing processes that are built to last and handle anything the road throws at you.
The Hawk's Nest V2 features a robust and durable full-aluminum construction for an aerodynamic, super low-profile rooftop home. It deploys in under 30 seconds, so you're ready for camp (it's true!).
With a full perimeter of accessory tracks and an optional Tent Mount Rack that can hold up to 30kg of essential gear on top when deployed, adventuring has never been easier.

Tough Construction
The Hawk's Nest V2 is built tough, using an ultra-durable full aluminum shell and marine-grade 316 stainless steel components. Protected with a commercial-grade Dulux® Duralloy® shell coating system, it provides a rooftop home ready for any adventure, be it sun, rain, salt, sand, or snow.
Coupled with Feldon Shelter's latest X-canvas tent body technology and a selection of hand-picked quality materials from both local and international suppliers, the Hawk's Nest V2 has been developed and proven to perform in New Zealand's harsh conditions. Hawk's Nest Model Guide
This Standard model features a taller shell than the Low-Pro model, offering generous internal space for bedding storage when closed. It's the ideal size for medium to large vehicles.

Simply unclip the two easy-to-use lockable latches, and the marine-grade stainless steel gas struts do all the work for you. The Hawk's Nest V2 is fully deployed in under 30 seconds, making it one of the easiest rooftop options on the market.
A mobile telescopic ladder and two ladder entry options are always available. No matter your vehicle or campsite setup, you'll have easy access.
Low Profile & Highly Customisable
Multiple tent mount rack options allow you to carry all your essentials on top. A full range of accessories for securing, packing, and attaching gear is available.
Heavy-duty marine-grade stainless steel gas struts allow you to store up to 30kg of gear on top when deployed and camped. This means less time taking gear off and more time enjoying. The modular design doesn't stop there, with multiple accessory mounting t-tracks along the full perimeter and top of the aluminum shell, allowing you to attach awnings, camp lights, shoe pockets, and more.
Internally, you'll find fully insulated panels and a handy overhead cargo storage system.
Designed & Proven in New Zealand's Harsh Conditions
From the harsh Northland sun to the wild winds and rain of the South, the Hawk's Nest has been rigorously tested in all environments to create a true four-season rooftop home. Every element has been developed here in NZ for NZ conditions.
Featuring our proven X-canvas, the Hawk's Nest tent body and rain fly are built tough with Feldon Shelter's trusted NZ Spec build method. Functional choices such as Japanese YKK zippers, European COATS thread (the same used in yacht sails), and NZ-made bungee have been hand-picked. All seams are heat-sealed and downturned, ensuring a waterproof finish even in the harshest conditions. This means you can confidently embark on even further adventures.
Our unique ErgoCell dual-stage mattress is integrated to give you enough space for two people to sleep soundly. After a long drive, you can finally relax in a soft, dry, and flat bed. No more nights spent sleeping uncomfortably on rocks and roots.
Materials & Construction
- Tent Body: 360g Polyester X-canvas, UV, mould & mildew resistant with PU treatment for waterproofing. Designed and proven to be tear-resistant, waterproof, and weatherproof in harsh New Zealand conditions.
- Stitching & Components: COATS UV-resistant thread (heavy-duty thread used for yacht sails), Japanese YKK zippers, double-reinforced and heat-sealed seams, marine-grade 316 stainless eyelets, NZ-made bungee cord (to assist with pack-down), and quality 150g mesh throughout the tent.
- Tent Shell: Full aluminum shell with Dulux® Duralloy® powder-coated finish. Fully TIG welded 25mm internal frame and lightweight, ultra-durable aluminum honeycomb panel (featuring 10 reinforced backbones).
- Hardware: Precision CNC machined aluminum latches, ladder brackets, mounting components, and accessories. Marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware and industrial-grade rubber sealing ensure the entire tent is waterproof and rust-proof, ready for any salty, sunny, rainy, or snowy environment.
- Gas Struts: Heavy-duty marine-grade 316 stainless steel gas struts, wind-rated to 45 knots.
- Mattress: 60mm dual-layer ErgoCell mattress (high-density comfort foam with anti-condensation layer). Features a waterproof base and side panels, with a machine-washable cover.

Roof Rack & Vehicle Requirements
- Roof Rack Requirements: 3-bar roof rack system or a roof platform with a minimum of 6 mounting points
- The front-to-back roof rack spacing (or front-to-back mounting points for a roof platform) must be at least 900mm.
- Vehicle Requirements: Both your vehicle and roof rack system must have a dynamic load rating of at least 100kg.
The Hawk's Nest series of rooftop tents are best suited for large SUVs, 4x4s, and vans.
Note for Double Cab Utes: Requires a suitable canopy with an attachable roof rack or platform. It cannot be mounted simultaneously to the vehicle body and canopy/tray. Also, the ute's cab itself often does not have sufficient mounting length.

Q. How many bars are needed for installation?
A. For the Hawk’s Nest V2, it is generally safest to assume a 3-bar configuration or a roof platform with sufficient mounting points. Always check the dynamic load capacity of both your vehicle and the rack system.
Q. Does it fit within the 2.1m height limit?
A. This depends on the height of the vehicle itself, the rack height, and the tent's stored height. Since the Standard model is taller when stored than the Low-Pro, careful verification is needed if aiming for the 2.1m limit. It will be easier to decide if you also consider whether 2.2m or 2.3m is acceptable.
